Booster

Clean boost your signal

A booster is probably not the most glamorous pedal you could own, after all, when did anyone ever say "I really love that booster sound...."?. However, it may be one of the most useful......

The simplest way to use it is as a volume boost into a solid state amp - simply tread on the switch to get a bit louder for solo work etc. But it can do so much more than that......

Placed in front of a valve amp it can overdrive the input for that classic tubescreamer sound, but without the mid-range hump. I tested this in front of a Marshall JCM2000 and it was simply awesome.

The increased output from this pedal can make your guitar sound fuller, more rounded, particularly with single coil P/Us. In fact if you use it for a while and then turn it off you will not believe how weedy your guitar sounds all of a sudden.

It can also be used to push a signal down a long effects chain, or lift the signal at the end. Be warned though, if you place it at the end of the chain it will boost everything, including any noise generated by the other pedals in the chain. Besides, your other pedals will probably benefit from having this one pushing their inputs.

This is a proper pre-amp so it can boost or defeat the volume, one unusual use for this pedal is as a "mute" switch to allow silent tuning on stage or guitar swaps without popping your amplifier.

MKII Version
I have now changed the design of this pedal and built it around a LM386 audio amp. It is voiced to give a slight bass boost for a richer sound and has a switchable gain stage. When the gain is selected it becomes an attractive sounding overdrive pedal.
